Dublin's Cultural Quarter

Discover the Temple Bar re-emerging as Dublin’s true cultural quarter. Wander the narrow cobbled streets and experience something new. We love the quirky shops and weekend market on Cow Lane. After browsing unique Irish crafts, artisan produce and handmade wares take a break in one of the wonderful cafes. Queen of Tarts deserves its name for gorgeous treats and is also a fantastic brunch spot. For tea lovers, Joy of Chá is an absolute must (and somewhere you’ll visit again and again to work your way through all the infusions and blends).

Smock Alley Theatre is one of Europe’s oldest thriving theatres, hosting performances since 1662. The Irish Film Institute, Meeting House Square, Create and Gallery of Photography, amongst many others, bring the arts right up to modern times.

Looking to explore history? Temple Bar area in medieval times was a district of St. Andrews Parish. In the 17th century, the land was redeveloped to create gardens for wealthy families.

As night turns to day, there is a great choice of restaurants in and around Temple Bar to choose from including FX Buckley for some of the best steaks in town; Roberta’s is stylish and modern with a menu to suit most tastes; or Elephant & Castle is a perennial favourite, famous for their wings. If you are looking for a great pint, some of the traditional Irish bars, have been open in the same location since the 18th century and are known to serve the best pint of Guinness in the world! Continue your evening at the Vintage Cocktail Club with speakeasy-vibes or the timeless Palace Bar on Fleet Street.

Temple Bar, located within a 10-minute walk from Maldron Smithfield, is certainly the best place to experience the “craic “of Dublin’s nightlife.

If catching a taxi back we recommend hailing one on the quays to avoid the one-way systems and pedestrian areas. From Wellington Quay the journey is typically 5 minutes, costing €10.

Travelling by Car & Parking

Planning on driving to the hotel? We would recommend parking in the multi-storey car park located beneath the Maldron Smithfield. Please see more parking information here.
